Background to the Review

As part of the 2005-06 Budget, the Treasurer announced that the Government would initiate a State Tax Review to shape tax reform over the next five years in consultation with the Western Australian community. On 5 July 2005, the Treasurer released the Terms of Reference for the Review and invited the public to make submissions by 30 September 2005 (seeA Guide for Public Submissions).

The Treasurer appointed Mr Jonathan Ilbery (Partner, Jackson McDonald) to Chair the Reference Group for the Review, which has played a key role in representing community interests and providing independent advice to the Treasurer.
