About Building Management and Works

The Building Management and Works (BMW) business was created in February 2009 to deliver the State Government’s Works Reform Program.

This program is focussed on achieving significant changes in the approach to capital works planning and delivery, and an improved availability of quality project management resources within Government. This will promote significant improvements in the effectiveness of project delivery across the whole of the capital works non-residential building (Government buildings) program.

BMW facilitates the planning and delivery of:

  • New Government buildings.
  • Maintenance and minor works at Government buildings across the State.
  • Government office accommodation.
  • High risk infrastructure projects through the Office of Strategic Projects.
  • The Centre for Excellence and Innovation in Infrastructure Delivery.

About the 2009 – 2010 Vacation Employment Program

What will I earn?

On your first day you will have an induction. This session which will give you information about your rights and responsibilities in regard to your employment and the opportunity to meet other vacation employees. In the meantime here is an overview of employment facts:

  • Employment Type – Temporary fixed term contract.
  • Award and Agreement – Public Service Award and Public Service General Agreement 2008 (PSGA).
  • Pay rate – Fortnightly salary range of $1152.31 - $1750.27 gross (working a 75 hour fortnight).
  • Hours – 75 hours per fortnight (standard hours are typically 9.00am to 5.00pm with half an hour for lunch, Monday to Friday).
  • Leave – You will accrue annual and personal leave.

Who Will I Be Working with?

You will report directly to a senior officer, who will delegate work to you, and provide on-the-job development, guidance and feedback.

You will also have a ‘buddy’ from your work area who will be happy to give you informal advice and answer any questions.

The VEP Coordinator in People Strategy and Performance, will also be on-hand to provide information and support during your employment.

What learning and development will I have?

Most of your learning will be hands on; however, you will also have the opportunity to participate in:

  • Induction on your first day
  • Development lunch
  • Application and Interview Skills training to assist you to apply for positions after you graduate
  • Debrief and closing session

Who Can Apply?

The VEP is open to students completing their penultimate year (2nd year of an undergraduate degree) or postgraduate studies and are returning to fulltime undergraduate or postgraduate studies in 2010.

Who we are looking for?

To apply for the 2009 – 2010 Vacation Employment Program, applicants will have:

  • Completion of at least two years full time study in a relevant tertiary undergraduate degree or be returning to full-time post-graduate study in 2010.
  • A high standard of academic achievement
  • Skills and attributes to meet the following job requirements: research skills, written, oral and interpersonal skills, conceptual and analytical skills demonstrate initiative and work within a team environment.

1 position | East Perth Location | 9 Weeks
Preferred Major(s): Open

Building Management and Works: Commercial Property
1 Position | East Perth Location | 9 Weeks
Preferred Major(s): Business, Commerce, Organisational Psychology, Property Studies
