Regional Buying
The Department of Treasury and Finance operates several Regional Buying Centres that provide specialist support to government agencies undertaking regional procurement. Covering the Mid West, South West and Goldfields/Esperance regions, the centres coordinate and streamline government purchasing in these areas and encourage agencies to source goods and services from local suppliers where appropriate.
This improved coordination of regional purchasing presents local suppliers with greater opportunities to compete for government business. It strongly encourages regional development and also gives support to the Government’s Buy Local Policy.
The Regional Buying Centres offer a range of services to government regional buyers. These include:
- facilitation of public tenders for goods and services called locally;
- coordination of regional procurement effort;
- support for the Buy Local Policy at the regional level;
- streamlining of regional procurement processes; and
- process and systems training for agencies and suppliers.
Contacting the Centres
If you are organising regional purchasing for goods or services valued at over $20,000, you are required to involve the relevant Regional Buying Centre. They can assist with obtaining the best prices and products available for your particular needs.
