Lauren, Shared Services Graduate 2008

What attracted you to the DTF grad program?
The DTF graduate program has a lot to offer other than a competitive salary…

There’s a large training budget and hence, there’s a lot more training on offer then many other organisations. The graduate coordinators are great, friendly people who are more than happy to arrange further training if you feel it’s necessary. The flexi-time arrangements allow you to start and finish at times that are convenient for you – which is especially great on a Monday morning or Friday afternoon.

Through networking events with other DTF grads, as well as grads from other agencies, DTF’s program has given me the opportunities to not only jump start my career but also make great friends along the way.

What type of interesting work have you been involved in at Shared Services?
In my graduate year, I’ve had the opportunity to work on the Human Resources Business Solutions Project in the Payroll stream. The purpose of this project is to customise a payroll system to suit almost all government agencies and have them all roll into it. The work involved interpreting legal documents such as awards and general agreements and putting those interpretations into a ‘real-life’ system that will affect many employers and employees. It’s great to work on a project that will have such a widespread impact.

What are the good things about working at Shared services/DTF?
One of the best things about working at Shared services is the people. Everyone’s friendly, approachable and only too willing to answer any questions. On top of that the building has recently been refurbished so it’s a great new environment to work in. And to top it all off, the semi-pro coffee machines are a great benefit on Monday mornings and to cure that 3:30itis too!
