Emissions Trading Unit

The establishment of the Emissions Trading Unit within the Department of Treasury and Finance was announced in May 2007.

The Unit is located within the Macroeconomic Policy Division of the Department of Treasury and Finance and is funded until the end of the 2011-12.

What we’re here for

To facilitate Western Australia’s participation in the development of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.

How do we do this

  • Research – to help us to understand the key issues for the State Government, industry and business, and the community we meet with relevant stakeholders, identify relevant data and other sources of information
  • Analysis – by bringing together all the relevant information we have identified as part of the research process we assess the implications of the Scheme design for Western Australia
  • Coordination – we coordinate emissions trading issues across State Government to ensure that all the relevant issues are identified and conveyed to ministers, agencies and other stakeholders
  • Advocacy – by representing the interests of Western Australia to the Commonwealth Government
  • Implementation – by getting the State Government prepared the start of the scheme and identifying implementation issues for industry, business and the broader community

Preparing for an emissions trading scheme

Emissions and fuel data for general government agencies is collected annually by the Sustainable Energy Development Office and the Office of Climate Change.

2007-08 emissions and fuel data for most government trading enterprises is being sought by 19 June 2009.  Data collection worksheets  are available here for those government trading enterprises wishing to submit this information electronically.  Worksheets are to be emailed to Greg.Mueller@dec.wa.gov.au.
