Unclaimed Monies

Searching for unclaimed money
There are several Commonwealth and State Government offices involved in the administration of the various types of unclaimed money.
The role of most Unclaimed Money offices is to maintain a register of monies lodged with them by Australian businesses, organisations and government agencies.
The public may view most of this information via the Internet and lodge claims where applicable.

The information listed in our Register is all that is known to this office and it is the responsibility of any claimant to provide Treasury with confirmation of their entitlement to any money claimed. Not all monies listed in this Register are held by Treasury - the following On-line Search will provide details on who holds the monies in question.
How to Lodge a ClaimThese forms and instructions are only for claiming monies held byTreasury & Finance.

Important Superannuation Notes:
No government office actively manages superannuation accounts. Unclaimed Money offices only maintain Registers of information provided to us by Superannuation Fund managers.
- Superannuation only becomes “unclaimed” upon the death on a person, or upon them reaching the age of 65 (i.e. this office has no information on monies for living persons under 65).
- The details of any superannuation monies that have been received by Treasury & Finance (i.e. for individuals that are deceased or over 65) are listed in our On-line Register – see above.
- Treasury & Finance only receives monies from Funds that are registered WA businesses. Fund managers registered outside WA lodge their unclaimed monies with the State in which they are registered (e.g. AMP is a NSW registered company and lodge their unclaimed monies with the NSW Office of State Revenue).
- If your name does not appear on our Register we can only suggest that you search the ATO and other State Registers (see above links) or contact your former employers or Fund Manager.
- The ATO maintains an Australia wide Register of “Lost Members” in which details of “inactive” superannuation accounts are listed (i.e. The ATO is the only government office that may have details on superannuation accounts for living persons under the age of 65).
* Note : Prior to 1990 companies placed their own public notices in the WA Government Gazette. Your local library may have information on the availability of these Gazettes.
